Voices of the youth of Eastern DRC: “SURVIVE” (video 1/3)

Listen! Young people from Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo speak out on “Condition: Critical”. They have stories to tell.

“Survive”, “Express”, “Fight”. These three videos will be central to the Condition: Critical dossier dedicated to youth launched on Tuesday 26 May 2021.

They tell the story of three individuals whose stories illustrate the diverse consequences of the conflict on the lives of young people, but also show their reactions in the face of this violence. One young man survived the bombs; others, young artists, chose not to remain silent, and decided, through their art, to make known what is happening in their country. Others enlisted and took part in the fighting before laying aside their weapons. Today, they envisage another life in peace.

They are 14, 15 and 16 years old, and they have never known peace. They were born in war, they have grown up in the midst of the conflict that rages throughout this region. Surrounded by violence, they have been caught up in it and sometimes overwhelmed by the horrors this violence generates.

In the coming weeks, other testimonies, stories, pictures and information will be added to the Condition: Critical dossier.
