Nyramana, 29, Kamp Nyanzale

Sinds november horen we dagelijks schieten. We hebben veel nachten in de bush doorgebracht maar we werden achtervolgd door gewapende groepen die ons huis plunderden en alles verwoestten. Daarom zijn we gevlucht naar dit kamp voor verdrevenen in Nyanzale. Ik ben een keer teruggegaan naar onze velden bij Mihara om wat voedsel te oogsten. Daar probeerden twee mannen me te verkrachten. Eerst wist ik ze van me af te houden, maar ze sloegen me met stokken tot ik uitgeput was, en toen verkrachtten ze me. Ik ben behandeld omdat ik bang was besmet te zijn. Nu ben ik er vooral bang voor het vertellen van de verkrachting aan mijn man. Ik weet niet waar ik moet beginnen. Ik ben bang dat ik zal worden gestraft.

i wish, the men, your husband can, under the grace of God, listen to you, accompany you in your suffering…You shouldn’t feel guilty for this and no husband and no man should shun you because you have been raped. You did all you could to defend yourself. You have nothing to be guilty about. You are a child of God. And God loves you. May God Almighty protect you and keep you and convert husband’s attitudes towards women who are raped.
May Jesus-Christ heal you and strengthen you in these horrible events you are living.
