“I despise war”
March 30th, 2009
T. is 70 years old and has difficulty getting around. She has come to the MSF mobile clinic, which is set up twice a week in Bukombo by MSF teams who work in Masisi hospital and health centre. She has been directed to the women’s clinic, where she is being treated by a nurse. She tells the nurse her terrible story.
“I can’t remember when it happened. It was during the war, but I don’t remember which war anymore. I came across some armed men and they intimidated me. Two men raped me, even though I told them that I was old…
“Four of my children died during the wars. Today, I live with my daughter who takes care of me.
“War is a terrible thing. Men become demons. When I think about the war, I feel shaken. I see the consequences of war. It is better to die than to experience that. I despise war.”
