Hello,
my name ist federic wulff.
I have been studying in oxford, norwich and the university of havanna “development studies”. one month before finishing my degree I have canceld my studies becaus I had lost my believe in that we can do anything to prevent these horrible happenings and the poverty question in general.
I work now as a free artist in berlin, germany. my work tries to tell that Kongo for instance, amongst many other do exist and I try to tell how it looks like. I know that there are other ways to tell the ones that live amongst uns, the million and million of people in europe and other peaceful and wealthy countries.
I am talking about fotography, cinema, TV, internet and so on. but non of them is leading to a change. too many still are not interested and still dont care. I am one of “many” you may say, but I rather prefer to say, one of the “few”, that are deeply disappointet about the disinterest of our societies that dont like to get involved how they should do.
in all cases we cen do much more than we actualy do.
I believe that artist like me working with these disasters can contribute to create awareness. I belive that the work of art, can be as horrible as its own topic. at this point, I would like to exchange me with people that are involoved into the development sector. people that have seen, people that know, people that work in this “sector”.
I would like to know about Your thoughts concering the question of how art and artist can deal with these horrible happenings. do we have limits in waht we can present to the public. can I show a dead body of a child that died of starvation? I am interester in waht you think.
(I garantee that I will NOT publish your statements in any case)
many thanks,
f. wulff

A salute to MSF for this magnificent film. In reaction many ask what we can do. Our response can have immense effect.
On 20th November 2008 the UN Security Council unanimously voted to increase UN forces in the Congo under MONUC, UN Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by 2785 military personnel and by 300 police. At present MONUC is the only organized defense of the civilian population in most areas. The Security Council also expressed the intention to extend the MANOC mandate beyond the present expiry date of 31st December of this year.
Most important to avoid the disastrous experience of the fiasco of UN intervention in Rwanda is that the mandate authorises ‘robust rules of engagement’.
The success of the UN intervention depends on member countries volunteering to participate and to dedicate logistic services to the force.
Commonly, governments believe that their citizens are unwilling to see valuable national resources used to serve in emergencies which do not concern them. THIS IS WHERE ALL OF US WHO ARE REACTING TO THIS FILM CAN CONTRIBUTE. We must publicise this cause among our follow citizens by using this film or other means. And WE MUST LOBBY OUR GOVERNMENTS, POLITICIANS, AND THE MEDIA, to support the intervention. As far as I am aware, any country which is a member of the UN can contribute peace keeping forces.
I am aware that a long term political solution is necessary. But, meanwhile, let us stop the killing. I do not think that any country in the world has yet volunteered forces to meet the latest news. The opportunity is ours to promote a response. We must start now, every day counts.

As a Peace Corps volunteer from 1985 to 1987, I traveled the intense and humbling landscape of this awe-inspiring region, meeting absolutely beautiful and graciouss people in Burundi, Rwanda and and the Kivu area of what was then Zaire. All hell broke loose soon after my my life there ended. As I have married and raised my children in the U.S., insulated from real global news due to our worse-than-useless Media, the inhumanity in this region of the world has continued for over 20 years! A long time ago, I lost track of friends living in this area. The last thing I knew was that their baby (same age as mine at the time) and his caretaker had been murdered in their home as other family members ran for the forest when soldiers attacked the school. Some of the family members had met up in a refuge camp. That is the last I heard from them. PLEASE tell the world, especially the citizens of the U.S.. What can we do???? There is never mention of it in our media. The work of the people who created this documentary must get out to the general public and have an impact.

This is an amazing website for an amazing cause. It’s so hard to believe people could still be living this way, such primitive beliefs and lack of concern for humanity really makes me notice how much I take for granted. The ability to go to school, work a full time job, and pursue anything I would like is such an incredible thing, yet I still complain on days that are tough. Those days are nothing compared to fighting for your life each and every day.

US : environ $ 1 milliard… pauvre monde.

I was in Congo when it was called Zaire during the weeks I covered Muhammad Ali training for The Rumble in the Jungle. These people are close to my heart as I have seen how they lived in better times.
The salient point that was made briefly in this excellent video is that this war is a result of greed for the fabulous natural resources that lie just beneath the ground. I always felt that the people of the Congo were its finest natural resource, and I still do.
The video would be more effective without the distraction of the graphics surrounding it on the page. Hats off to all who made this piece, especially Cedrique and the peace warriors of MSF!

Your film and your work is great by all means. You really show the world what happens over there, which we don’t really learn from other media.
But the more I read or see about what happens in that country the more I wonder what I can do. I have no power. I may have some money to give but who is it really going to help? Do those people need money? I believe what they need is food, water, homes and more that anything PEACE.
I even read that it takes 7 weeks or more for a refugee to get some help when they first arrive in a refugee camp.
The big question is What can WE do?
Que pouvons NOUS faire?

Felicidades Medicos Sin Fronteras,

Thank you for sticking with this region and it’s people!
I have been thinking a lot about the children who are separated from their families. These children should be supported in particular, because without hope, I fear the violence that surrounds them will only be perpetuated. If there were a way to improve the sense of safety these kids have, and to agressively treat their PTSD….
There doesn’t seem any formal way for ensuring safe foster care for them, or ???
Also, registration — is there any centralized system in place for displaced people in the region to register themselves and their missing loved ones, so that some may be re-united? Since so many people are so transient, a camp-by-camp solution solution would not work as well.
If any organization works on these things, that anyone knows of, please post it here or email: . I’ll check back.

With media reporting focusing on ’soft’ issues I am glad to have stumbled upon this site and MSF efforts in not only assisting the people of Congo, educating the world but also publishing photos and stories that would otherwise not be published.
I’ve known photojournalists that have covered Congo’s conflict - would MSF like some of the photos? I’ll be blogging about your site and forwarding your site nevertheless to those who can assist.
Thank you for making a difference and believing.

This website is a wonderful resource that puts a much needed face on the unspeakable and continuous suffering endured by the Congolese people. Though it is virtually impossible to quantify this suffering, the eyewitness accounts of the innocent victims who live it daily provide the most compelling and important source of information. No human being should have to live in these conditions, and the suffering will continue until the root causes of the violence are addressed in a meaningful way.

Let´s make this crazy world a better place; together as one!

Good evening!
Once again I want to let you know that the job you did, are doing, and are certainly going to do is … what is the most convenient word? Gorgeous!
I read the whole article you wrote, and I have once again been astounded, not only by the first consequences the war generates, but especially by the “second level” conequences!
I mean that a girl who have been raped, should receive more care of her familly. But, because of the war, people are scared of saying anything, so, the shut their mouthes up and they act as nothing had happened. But we mustn’t blame them, either. That’s the social consequences of the war, about which you already spoke.
So, this problem looks really difficult to resolve…
Whatever I’m right or wrong, the work you’re doing is more helpful than my comment
Keep working there. Keep helping them.
Ps: Thanks a lot, because this website apprise me of what is happening there; moreover, it makes my english evolved.
Sacha.

Hello!
Let us hope that the world starts being interested in Congo and not only pulling out rare minerals…
It is a shame, that civil war finds weapon mande in Germany, France, Italy and China to kill innocent people, while the others have a benefit with cheap minerals!
As a tour operator we try to support local people when doing our tours, but the last two years it was too dangerous to get guest there. It is a pitty and we are sorry for so many people suffering.
Good luck to Congo, Rwanda and the people around it!

I pray for all of you working in the most dangerous places around the world. I cannot begin to imagine what you have experienced and how it has effected you. It pains one to simply watch a video of MSF’s work, let alone live it. I aim to dedicate my career as a nurse to working with an organization such as your’s - if I should be so fortunate. There is not one day that goes by that I don’t think about your mission statement. I have known for many years now that it is truly my calling to offer any skills that I may have to those who are so desparetely in need of medical help. I believe it is our responsibilty to share with the world’s most vulnerable, the basic human rights we ALL deserve. I enrolled in nursing here in Toronto for that sole purpose. I cannot express in words how much I appreciate this organization. You have been the greatest inspiration for me and I can only pray that I have the opportunity to be a part of it someday. I wish you all the strength in the world and send you my love. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for everything you do and all that you stand for. Please never lose faith, and know that even when it seems futile - you really are making the world a better place with each life that you rescue from the harshest of realities. May the peace of God be with you. xx

Im doing a report on congo for my history class, just reading some of the storys on this site made me want to cry. People need to understand how lucky they are to live in a place that doesn’t have to go through what thease people have to go through. Kids my age having to leave school or are struggling through their everyday life. Of course we know there are things in the world that aren’t all perfect (like anything is). Your blogs and pictures are very touching and inlightened me into alot of things i didnt even think someone would do to someone else. And how very strong thease people are. Having to struggle through all thease things getting thrown there way. keep me updated i’d like to learn alot more. What you are doing (helping thease peole) is amasing.

Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No Hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace … (yuhuuuuhh)
You may say I am a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world … (yuhuuuh)
You may say I am a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

OH MIJN LIEVE GOD!!!!
OH MIJN LIEVE GOD…..

To all these beautiful, strong , brave and amazing people …..our hearts go out to you all.
You and your families have the right to expect security and safety in your homeland. To be able to live without fear , to have the means to look after your families and to enjoy quality of life and equality.
With regard to all the innocent souls who have been damaged by this conflict,
it is essential that they have access to both medical and psychological support to enable them to move positively forward for future generations. They have been through so much and more than deserve the support of the international community.
What a wonderful job MSF is doing in providing them with a voice to relate their stories on an international platform. These are real people and their stories are important, memorable , and inspire action!
I am overwhelmingly moved by their courage and their plight.
Living in a country where the rights of all are respected, and where there are no real concerns for safety or for providing of basic needs of all ,
it is impossible to fathom that there is such inequality and suffering for so many people and their families.
This is a global issue that we should all be outraged about. How we can continue to allow yet another holocaust,
given the political stance we have on human rights the world over? Sadly it continues to be an ongoing issue in so many countries.
Having said that, I now more than ever appreciate the valuable work of MFS and their incredible staff, who work tirelessly towards the goal of giving these people hope, support and quality
medical care.
The work that MFS is doing to alert the world to the plight of the Conganese people is exemplary.
Now more than ever I will continue to support MSF in their struggle to assist these people in their fight for a better future. If all gave just a little … imagine.
